ExCEL Virtual Learning Academy calculates attendance weekly.
The attendance cycle runs Monday through Sunday. Students have until 11:59 p.m. each Sunday to complete coursework and meet pacing expectations. Weekly Wellness Homerooms must be completed during the student's assigned meeting or the Friday Make-up Wellness Homeroom, when applicable.
Attendance is determined using two measures:

If your child is marked absent under the ExCEL Attendance Policy, an excuse must be submitted to:
Students who fail to meet Pennsylvania compulsory attendance requirements may be subject to applicable state attendance laws and district policies.

A student is considered on pace in a course when they have fewer than six (6) overdue lessons in that course at the time weekly attendance is calculated.Â
Students who miss their assigned Weekly Wellness Homeroom are expected to attend the Friday Make-up Wellness Homeroom. Failure to complete the required Weekly Wellness Homeroom, including the Friday Make-up Wellness Homeroom when applicable, may result in attendance consequences according to the Attendance Matrix.Â
Students should notify their ExCEL Advisor as soon as possible and are expected to attend the Friday Make-up Wellness Homeroom, whenever applicable.Â
No. Students who have completed all required coursework for the current marking period are considered on pace and will not be penalized. However, students are still required to attend their assigned Weekly Wellness Homeroom each instructional week to complete the required Pennsylvania Wellness Check, even if all coursework for the marking period has been completed.Â
A student is considered to have no academic engagement when no coursework has been completed in any enrolled course during the weekly attendance cycle.Â
Yes. Students may work ahead without attendance consequences related to academic progress as long as they remain on pace according to the Attendance Matrix. However, attendance at the assigned Weekly Wellness Homeroom remains required each instructional week, even when coursework has been completed in advance.Â
Yes. Students should notify their ExCEL Advisor as soon as possible if they are unable to attend their assigned Weekly Wellness Homeroom. Students are expected to attend the Friday Make-up Wellness Homeroom to complete the required Weekly Wellness Check.Â

No. Students are expected to remain on pace in all enrolled courses throughout the school year. The Attendance Matrix establishes the minimum requirements used to calculate attendance and should not be interpreted as the expected level of academic progress.Â
