Location: Available via email request to Mrs. Kersten at rkersten@wsesdvt.org
It's been one of the craziest years in theatre since women were allowed onstage, and we thought we'd share a year in review as our final offering for this school year. In this showcase, students talk about the May Literature to Life workshop series that we participated in, share some of the work they created, and discuss the highlights of theatre experiences they had this year.

For the past 7 years Dorset Theatre Festival has provided opportunities for regional middle and high school students to learn about playwriting and create a play of their own. This year, Dorset has taken their classes online for the first time, making the annual Vermont tradition available to students and teachers everywhere.
The Young Playwrights Program allows our participating young playwrights a hands-on experience working not only with professional theatre educators, but also professional playwrights and up-and-coming playwrights from top masters degree programs around the country.
Using the art of dramatic writing in theatre, our program seeks to engage students’ imaginations, broaden their means of expression, foster a sense of community, and increase their sense of self worth, literacy skills, and appreciation for the arts.
Heidi Armbruster is a New York based theater artist dedicated to creating new work and discovering new approaches to classical literature and theater. Heidi is a founding member and co-curator of Dorset Theater Festival’s Women Artists Writing, a group dedicated to cultivating the emergence of diverse theatrical voices. Heidi’s play “Mrs. Christie” received its world premiere at Dorset Theater Festival in the summer of 2019. “Mrs. Christie” was developed at Primary Stages, Dorset Theater Festival, SPACE on Ryder Farm (as a member of the resident writer’s group The Working Farm), and multiple residencies at The Orchard Project. “Dairyland” received its world premiere in the fall of 2019 at Playmakers Repertory Company after workshops at Playhouse on Park, Primary Stages ESPADrills, The Lark, Red Fern Theater, Luna Stage, and the New Play Workshop at The Chautauqua Theater Festival in 2014. Heidi’s play “Murder Girl” has been workshopped by Kansas City Rep and Red Caravan. “Every Good Girl Deserves Fun (and other misremembered things),” a commission from Clutch Productions, was produced in New York in the fall of 2015 at Walker Space. “Where the I Divides” received development by San Francisco’s ReACT. Heidi’s short play “Purgatory” was a part of Red Bull Theater’s inaugural 2011 Short Play Festival, subsequently published by Smith and Kraus in their “Best Ten Minute Plays of 2013” anthology, and “Red Bull Shorts Anthology.”
As an actress, Heidi has extensive New York and regional theater credits, including “Time Stands Still” on Broadway, Lincoln Center’s production of the Pulitzer Prize winning play “Disgraced,” the New York premieres of Sam Hunter’s “Lewiston/Clarkston” at Rattlestick, Anna Ziegler’s “Boy” at Keen Company, Tracy Letts’ “Man from Nebraska” at Second Stage, and Theresa Rebeck’s “Poor Behavior” at Primary Stages. Stage Movement Facilitator:
Mr. Rose
Location:

Here's our plan to keep everyone Covid-safe when we are able to meet in person.
About the Topic/Presenter
Mr. Rose has a background in acting, directing, and fight choreography. He spoke with us about what stage movement is, what does a movement choreographer do, and how it differs from blocking. He also worked with us on physical training and how our movement onstage translates into physical acting/telling a story with movement.
While we are planning options for Zoom right now, our hope is to be able to meet in person in the BUHS auditorium when clubs are once again permitted to do so, pending approval from the administration.
