TECHNICAL THEATRE I (Course #H1188) Practical Arts credit

Technical Theatre I introduces students to the backstage world of theatre! Students will engage in hands-on experiences with special effects makeup, scenic painting techniques, and prop construction. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to engage in other facets of theatre including marketing and publicity in order to gain an appreciation for the function and operation of the theatre.

Prerequisite: Technical Theatre I
Technical Theatre II continues the fun of Tech I! Students delve further into the backstage world of theatre as they learn more about the roles and responsibilities of stage technicians and designers. Students experience the process of design from initial idea to realization of final product in a variety of areas such as lighting, sound, costumes, and set construction.
TECHNICAL THEATRE III (Course #H1190) Practical Arts credit

Prerequisite: Technical Theatre I & Technical Theatre II

Technical Theatre III elaborates on the fun from Tech I & Tech II. In this year-long course, students will take on the role of designers and crew heads for the main stage productions. Students will be afforded opportunities to engage in the design process from conceptualization to realization of multiple projects in multiple areas of theatre. This course is designed with the student in mind who is considering technical theatre as a career path. Thus, in addition to hands-on design experiences, students will work on portfolio development and presentation.
TECHNICAL THEATRE CAPSTONE (Course #H1195) Practical Arts credit

The Technical Theatre Capstone provides students with the opportunity to apply their skills by designing and executing a full-scale theatrical production. Working collaboratively, students will design and operate various aspects of a production such as, but not limited to, scenic, lighting, costume, and sound design. They will also gain valuable experience in project management, teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and professionalism as they plan, budget, and execute the production. This capstone serves as a culminating project to showcase their technical skills and artistic vision, preparing them for successful careers in the professional theatre industry.

Theatre Arts I is a course that looks at the field of theatre through the study of various performance techniques such as improvisation, pantomime, and storytelling. Students also learn about theatre through the study of theatre history, theatre terminology, and theatre careers.
THEATRE ARTS II (Course #H1187) Fine Arts credit

Prerequisite: Theatre Arts I
This course builds upon the knowledge learned in Theatre Arts I. It continues the study of theatre through various performance techniques, theatre terminology, modern theatre development, musical theatre and the mechanics of putting together a show.
THEATRE ARTS CAPSTONE (Course #H1196) Fine Arts credit

The Theatre Arts Capstone provides students with the opportunity to culminate their studies by intensively exploring their performance artistry in a leadership role. This involves devising, rehearsing, and performing a challenging theatrical piece, allowing for deep investigation of character, movement, voice, and stagecraft. Students will have the opportunity to assume directorial positions, such as Assistant Director, Stage Manager, or Dramaturg, alongside performing roles. Through close collaboration with faculty, students receive individualized mentorship and feedback to refine their craft and develop essential leadership skills. This demanding experience fosters a deeper understanding of their artistic voice, hones their performance skills, and builds the confidence and resilience necessary for a successful career in theatre.

Acting provides a platform for students to hone their craft, ignite their passion, and develop essential life skills. Through a blend of theory and practice, students will delve into the world of acting, exploring character analysis, emotional expression, and performance techniques. By analyzing scripts and scenes, they will gain confidence to present in various settings. Requiring dedication and discipline, acting cultivates a strong work ethic. Moreover, acting fosters creativity, problem-solving, and empathy, serving as a powerful tool for personal growth and stress relief. Performing in front of an audience helps overcome stage fright and develop strong public speaking skills, while collaboration with others fosters teamwork and cooperation.
IMPROVISATION AND SKETCH COMEDY (Course #1183) Fine Arts credit

Improv and sketch comedy will serve as a dynamic platform for students to explore their creativity, develop essential communication skills, and cultivate a mindset of spontaneity and resilience. Through creative writing and improvisational exercises, students will learn to think on their feet, collaborate effectively, and embrace the power of imaginative storytelling. By stepping outside their comfort zones and performing in front of others, students will boost their self-esteem and confidence. This course will foster a supportive learning environment where students feel empowered to take risks, think critically, and express themselves artistically. Ultimately, improv and sketch comedy will equip students with the tools to succeed both on and off the stage.
