Art Foundations 1

Freeflow - This course will provide students with an overview and introduction to the fine arts, their media, and the cultures they represent. With an emphasis on studio production, this course is designed to help you develop higher-level thinking, introduce the elements and principles of design, art history and aesthetics. The course begins with the focus on line and value. Once students have shown understanding of these elements we move onto space, proportions, perspective and color and finish the course with a self-portrait.

Art Foundations 2

Freeflow - This advanced art class expands upon the elements of art and the principles of design with continued exploration of basic art media and techniques, such as drawing, painting, graphic design, collage, printmaking and acrylic paints. This course is designed for the highly motivated art student. Students will also have opportunities to showcase their artwork here at the school and enter an art piece in the Weber School District Art Show.

3D Art

Freeflow - In this class you will learn and practice the principles and elements of design in a three-dimensional format. With an emphasis on studio production, students will have a chance to make their own handmade books, paint trucker hats, participate in a group installation with packing tape sculptures, create relief designs using origami and more. This course is designed to help you develop higher-level thinking and problem solving skills.

Art Painting

Freeflow - This is an introductory course that covers basic painting techniques with an emphasis on classic and contemporary applications of watercolor and acrylic media. Topics include the use of color, texture, form and value through still life, landscape, and old masters reproduction. With an emphasis on studio production.

SC Art 1010 - Introduction to the Visual Arts

IVC - This is an introductory course for non-art majors in which students will learn to understand and appreciate art through the study of the visual language and art history. This course presents the fundamentals of the creative process, including structure, concept, material proficiency, and historical context. Emphasis is placed on developing the student's ability to critically analyze artistic works.

SC Music 1030 - Intro to Jazz and American Pop

IVC - This course is a general music appreciation class designed to empower music listeners by giving them an understanding of American jazz and popular music. Students will develop analytical and listening skills that help them to identify and be able to seek and write about about jazz and popular music styles. This course fulfills the General Education requirement for Fine Arts.

SC Music 1031 - History of Rock and Roll

IVC - This course provides students with an overview of the history of rock and roll music from its roots to the present day. Emphasis is placed on major stylistic trends and the artists who made major contributions to the evolution of this musical genre. Rock music will also be studied in a sociological context- both as an influence on, and as a reflection of the society in which it has operated. Fundamental musical concepts and vocabulary will also be addressed.
