It is also expected that the students' reading skills will improve as they are exposed to both classical and more modern pieces of literature, both domestic and foreign.

Freeflow - Students will develop skills in reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, and communication. This course is designed to help junior students become highly skilled readers and writers, with an emphasis in American literature and academic writing, including preparation for the ACT.

Freeflow - With a concentration of studying various genres of British literature, this course focuses on improving basic writing skills in order to prepare the student for post-high careers. All forms of writing are integrated into this full-year course: narrative, argumentative, and research. Each novel, story, and assignment helps the students to identify text-to-self and world connections.

Can be replaced with a foreign language level 3 or higher, CE Communication or CE English course. See CE courses listed below.

WSU ENGL 1010 - Introductory College Writing

In Person - Students will learn practices of successful academic writing. Students will focus on the writing process, writing for specific audiences, collaboration with peers, and on the interrelationship between reading and writing.

Credit: 1.0 LA Elective and 3 Concurrent Enrollment credits

*This is a pure class. Students are required to register for Concurrent Enrollment credit through Weber State University. If students fail to register for CE credit by the deadline, the class will be removed from their schedule and students will need to choose a different class.

Prerequisites: 18 or higher on both ACT English and Reading and complete English 11

SUU ENGL 1010 - Introduction to Academic Writing

Online - The first of the required GE writing courses introduces students to academic composition. Students will engage in writing as a process, pre-drafting strategies, multiple drafts, peer review, and large and small-scale revisions.

WSU ENGL 2015 - Intermediate College Writing

SC COMM 1500 - Introduction to Mass Media

IVC - This course is an introduction into the nature of media and its relationship with the individual. The course teaches students to analyze, assess and evaluate popular culture, literature, and media. It includes a focus on various mediums including literature, radio, television, film, books, newspaper, and advertising to assist students in looking at the big picture of how media affects their perceptions.

WSU COMM 2110 - Interpersonal and Small Group Communication

In Person - Explores the dynamics of verbal and nonverbal communication in personal relationships and small groups. The emphasis is on practical application of course content to enhance interpersonal relationships and to achieve competence as group members.

SC COMM 2110 - Interpersonal Communication

Hybrid - The study of interpersonal communication is the study of interaction between people. It is not only the conversation, but the psychology of relationships, problems, and situations and how they can be dealt with in an effective manner. This course is designed to study interpersonal communication from a descriptive as well as analytical point of view. The topics of interpersonal relationships include; Cognitive Psychology, self-concept, perception, emotions, verbal and nonverbal language, listening, intimacy, climate, and conflict will be discussed. Possible methods of enhancing interpersonal communication situations will be practiced through discussion, role-play, writing, critical evaluation, feedback and observance.
