What is Solo and Ensemble?
Solo and Ensemble is an opportunity for you to perform outside of band class where you receive a feedback and a score from a judge. This is usually a chance for you to perform a solo, or to perform with a small group (ensemble). Solo and Ensemble is a great performance opportunity that you get to have! Performing a solo is a great way to learn more about your instrument, music, performing, and overcoming performance anxiety. Ensembles are great ways to learn more about how your instrument and sound fits into music, and what sounds can compliment that. This is also a great way to learn about collaboration, team work, tone, and sacrifice. Solo and Ensemble is a big deal! At the high school level, you perform at a Region Solo and Ensemble, hopefully being able to advance to the State Festival. Having good Solo and Ensemble scores, especially at the state level, can help you to receive scholarships such as Music Scholarships, Sterling Scholar, and look good on applications. You also get bragging rights, somebody told you that you're good at your instrument! Our Junior High Solo and Ensemble festivals are to help you be prepared for high school festivals.
Orion's Solo and Ensemble Festival is held the week before Spring Break every year. This will be a festival we have during our class time.
We hold Weber School District Junior High Solo and Ensemble every year in April. Our adjudicators are often friendly, and give valuable and detailed feedback on your performance. Their goal is to help you become a better musician! We are lucky to be able to have a Solo and Ensemble designed for our junior high band.
2026 Solo and Ensemble Details
Orion Junior High Solo and Ensemble will be held after school on March 25th from 3:30 to 6:30 pm. More details will follow.
Our School level festival will be required for everyone. Advanced Band students may choose to participate with a Solo, or a small ensemble.
Students who are invited to the District festival are not required to attend, but strongly encouraged since not all students make it to that round. See details below describing different requirements for different classes.
