Marching band is SO awesome!!!
Marching Band is an awesome extra curricular activity that students can participate in. Marching band is SO much fun, it gives you something to do, and you get to hang out with your friends while playing your instrument. We have two types of Marching Band students can participate in. Marching Band can be a lot of commitment, and can be a lot of physical work, but it's so worth it! Marching Band is the BEST way to get better at your instrument! Marching Band is an awesome way to make friends, and be a part of a team.
First we have Parade Band, and second we have our Competitive Marching Band, or Mountain Star Marching Band. Here's a little info about both opportunities and who can participate!!
Parade Band
The first opportunity students have is to march in Parades with the Marching Band! These are local parades, such as 4th of July parades, or Founder's Day Parades. Parade season is a summer activity, we hold rehearsals the mornings to avoid the summer heat. Here is some info about that.
Students who've had at least one year of Band may participate! (Current 7th graders and up)
No previous marching experience is required!
There is a fee charged by the school district of $15, but can be waived with a Fee Waiver. (This covers your shirt and hat.)
Students will need an instrument, summer rentals are available from the school, see Ms. Shinney or Instrument Rental Page for more info.
Students have the opportunity to march with the Weber High Marching Band for parades such as Pleasant View Founder's Day, and Cherry Days.
Dates/Times are TBD
Students who will go to Fremont are also encouraged to participate in Summer Marching Band! They have a few parades they march as well. Fremont High Marching Band Dates are still TBD. (You may contact Mr. Reeder for questions. Come march with Fremont High if you'll be going there!)
Students also have the opportunity to march with the Mountain Star Marching Band for the Ogden Pioneer Days Parade. Mountain Star Parade Camp Dates are: May 17th, July 21-23 (All 8 am to 12pm) and the Parade on July 24th. (See mountainstarmb.com with a calendar for those dates.)
Students are ENCOURAGED to march with Weber High, and Mountain Star, there is no extra cost to do both. Mountain Star only has one parade this summer, and Weber will have at least two. We would LOVE to have a big Weber High Marching Band, so ALL are welcome. :)
Parade band is a GREAT way to be introduced to the world of marching band in a FUN way! You get to be in a parade, and you get to learn new music! Please contact Ms. Shinney with any questions you have about Marching Band, she can get you the answers you need. :)
Competition Band
Competitive Marching Band in our school district has been combined into the Mountain Star Marching Band! This is an AWESOME group of all 5 of the Weber School District High Schools. Competitive Marching Band is a UHSAA activity, so we do follow their rules and guidelines. Competition Band is a LARGE commitment, but nothing is more rewarding in the world of Band. Here's some info about it.
Only students who are current 8th graders or older are allowed to participate. (9-12 next school year.)
No previous marching experience is required, but Parade Band this summer will be required if you choose to participate.
New marchers will need to attend a rehearsal on May 17th, from 8 am to noon. (All are welcome and encouraged to get better!)
This is an optional activity, that has fees associated with it.
Mountain Star follows all UHSAA rules and regulations, which includes eligibility. (Students cannot have a GPA below a 2.0, or have more than 1 F in order to participate. This is based on 4th quarter's grades, AND 1st quarter for state and other competitions.)
Students will need an instrument, summer rentals are available from the school, see Ms. Shinney or Instrument Rental Page for more info. Some marching instruments we don't have here at Orion, so you may need to contact Mr. Van Bibber or Mr. Reeder at your respective high school.
Students who are 9th graders may also do field shows with the Weber High Marching Band alongside Mountain Star participation. (info to come)
Please register for Mountain Star by March 28th, including your $50 deposit.
For any questions about Mountain Star Competitive Band before you register, feel free to reach out to Ms. Shinney, she is a Mountain Star employee. If you are already committed to Mountain Star, you should reach out to your future high school band director, so that they can get to know you, and that you're participating with us! (They're also in charge and make all of the decisions.) Here's their contact
