Claine R. Stenquist, known as “STENNY” throughout the halls of Roy High School, influenced hundreds of students during his 36 years as a small engines, agriculture and greenhouse teacher. As a rough and tumble farm boy he loved being the FFA (Future Farmers of America) advisor and helped many students prepare for local competitions and events. He had a passion for football and shared his love for the game as a coach for Roy High. “Fight until the whistle blows,” was his motto. He cleverly inspired all with his humor and fun which attracted everyone to him. A giant of man, Stenny, demanded the best from everyone but was willing to help anyone, anytime. Britnee was born February 9, 2002, in Henderson, Nevada. Her family lived in Hiko, Nevada, at the time, but moved to Henderson when Britnee was seven weeks old. She was a happy, quiet baby and her three older siblings and parents loved her so much!
Britnee was diagnosed with Long QT Syndrome (a heart condition) when she was five months old when her older sister was diagnosed. It was a discouraging discovery, and one that would significantly impact her life.
Britnee started learning the piano with her mom at the age of four. In Enoch, Utah (where the family moved in 2005), she took piano lessons from an adjunct college professor, who was very pleased with Britnee’s rapidly improving skills!
In 2008, Britnee and her family moved to Roy, Utah, where Britnee spent the rest of her life.
Britnee lived with difficult health challenges. She had an ICD (internal cardioverter defibrillator) implanted when she was six to treat her heart condition. She also had a very hoarse voice due to surgery on her trachea (she had her first throat surgery at age 6). She endured more than twenty surgeries, but stayed strong and had an eternal perspective and exuded peace and hope. She was a strong Christian and lived according to her faith.
Britnee danced and took tumbling with Studio 48 and enjoyed a year of competition dance. She picked up the violin too. But her passion was with the piano. She practiced often and had a natural gift. At the age of 13 she was asked to play the piano for her local church congregation at the stake level, where she served until she turned 18! She accompanied choirs at the ward and stake level in her church and performed musical numbers with her mom, little sister Tifnee, and others.
Britnee was asked by Steve and Jenn Kelley to teach piano to five of their boys in 2015. Thus started the Hatch Piano Studio. Britnee taught piano lessons until she passed away. She did a fantastic job teaching and got along well with her students. She found joy in sharing her knowledge with others! It has been rewarding to see her students continue to play and improve at the piano!
In 2016, at the age of 14, Britnee earned her Young Womanhood Recognition Award from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This was a goal that she was determined to meet, and she worked diligently to fulfil the requirements!
In 2018, Britnee spent a wonderful Make-A-Wish day with Why Don’t We in Salt Lake City! The band was very kind and spent hours with her! It was one of the highlights of Britnee’s life, and she posted dozens of pictures from that day all over her bedroom walls where they remained until after she passed away and our family moved to West Point!
At Roy High, Britnee was an accompanist for some of the choirs in 2017-2018 and the Chamber Choir in 2018-2019. She played everything Mrs. Doxey gave her and did a fabulous job!
Britnee excelled at the piano and the skill that she worked so hard to develop brought her and many others great joy. She loved to play songs from “The Greatest Showman,” “Phantom of the Opera,” “Wicked,” Piano Guys songs (she mastered “Perfect” and played it often), and Harry Styles’ songs (especially “Falling” and “If I Could Fly”). She played classical for fun, learning “Claire de Lune,” among other songs.
Some of Britnee’s favorite things were Why Don’t We and One Direction. She liked Tom Holland, Matt Damon, and Tom Cruise movies. Some of her favorite TV shows were “Survivor” and “Scorpion.” She didn’t like sweets much, and could put a lemon in her mouth without it being too sour for her! She loved Subways and Chilis. Her favorite color was periwinkle and her favorite food was steak! Most of all, she loved her family, including her little nephews, and she revered and loved her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was always respectful to her parents, and one of the last things that she ever told us was that we were good parents.
Britnee unexpectedly passed away October 17, 2020, after a surgery on her ICD in Salt Lake City. Her family and friends miss her terribly. We want to remember her and to make sure that she is never forgotten! We want to share her love for music, especially the piano, with everyone who will listen!
Britnee’s music, calm smile, and kindness are sorely missed. She lives on in the many pictures, videos, drawings, writings, scrapbooks, and memories that she left behind. She left an irreplaceable mark on this word and we remember and honor her!
You can see Britnee playing the piano on our Youtube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDywzGq8lUcU9j64U4B1zuw

The late Charles F. Hull, a former Mayor of Roy City (1966 – 1974), was an avid supporter of Roy High School and its student body. As a city councilman and mayor he was involved with the early years of the high school. He believed the youth of Roy High had the potential to accomplish many good things in a variety of areas if given the chance and encouragement. He demonstrated those beliefs by attending many different high school functions. He did not seek recognition for this support since it was an enjoyable avocation. However, in 1975 the students of Roy High School recognized him with the Loyal Royal Award. The awarding of this scholarship is based upon the criteria the family feels represents the attributes and characteristics Mayor Hull admired. These include: honesty, personal pride, leadership, citizenship in the community and school, a desire for education, a well-balanced lifestyle, and a willingness to work hard.
