College and Vocational Training
Students who want to attend a two or four-year college, or a training program, upon graduation from Wachusett have a variety of resources at their fingertips. School Counselors work with students, in coordination with Special Education Liaisons, to make sure students understand and complete the college planning process in a timely manner. Services provided by School Counselors include:
Career interest surveys to match students to careers that may be of interest.
Information on college and training program requirements, applications, and deadlines.
Assistance with selecting two or four-year programs throughout the United States.
Assistance with obtaining letters of recommendation and college essay writing.

There are several options available to students who choose to enroll in a two or four-year college or training program.
Certificate or trade school programs: These programs are typically completed in less than one or two years. Some examples include carpentry, culinary, cosmetology, dental assistant, and nursing assistant. Programs available in the central MA area are detailed on this website.
Community College: Requirements vary depending on the school, but generally, community colleges accept anyone with a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED). These schools offer Associate degrees and certificate programs in a wide range of areas. Students who begin at a two-year school can transfer to a four-year school with little problem to work towards a Bachelor's degree. Community colleges in the central MA area include:
Four-year college or university: These schools tend to look at grade point averages, academic preparation, and scores on standardized college admissions tests. There are several four-year colleges and universities in the central MA area. Your child's guidance counselor can assist in selecting appropriate schools for your child to apply.
