Hiring Process
The process between applying and arriving in Korea can sometimes be complicated. Please make sure you understand this process in order to make it as smooth as possible.
Initial screening and first interview
If you meet our minimum requirements, and Woosong University is hiring, your first step after the document screening is to complete our internal application form. At the end of that form, you will let us know when you're available for a first interview. The first interview will be conducted live via video Skype. It will last around half an hour and is an opportunity to introduce your professional life and to learn more about Woosong University.
What will we talk about? What should you prepare?
There's nothing to prepare for the first interview. All you must do is be available via video Skype at the scheduled time. Your first interview is a one-on-one interview with a member of the hiring committee. In general, though, we will ask about:
Your professional and educational background,
Why you want to teach English as a Foreign Language in South Korea,
How your background prepares you to teach English as a Foreign Language in South Korea,
Your approach to English as a Foreign Language teaching,
Other topics relating to teaching and education.
We will also share some information about Woosong University with you, then take your questions. In general, we'll discuss:
Our 15-week Spring and Fall semesters, as well as the Summer and Winter intersessions;
Our curriculum for first- and second-year required courses in conversation, listening, reading, and writing;
Your teaching requirements and opportunities;
Professional development, elective courses, and other opportunities;
Particulars related to your second interview, as well as contracts, visas, and so on.
If the first interview goes well, the committee will be in touch to schedule a second interview, which is a committee-style interview with 3-4 members of the hiring committee and departmental leadership.
Contacting your referees
Unless you ask us not to, we will begin contacting your references shortly after scheduling the first interview.
