Hiring Process
The process of applying for a job and arriving here in Daejeon is complicated. This timeline provides a basic overview of the hiring and arrival process.
Woosong is accepting applications for non-tenure track assistant professors of EFL. Those professors are hired through the Woosong Language Institute (WLI) and primarily teach in the university's GEL program, though there are occasional opportunities for other assignments, such as at the SolBridge International School of Business, the Endicott College of International Studies,or J W Kim College of Future Studies.
Teaching a variety of credit and noncredit classes (up to 20 hours per week);
Maintaining office hours from 9:00 am - 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday; and
Attending professional development, which is organized by the university.
Classes are taught from Monday to Friday during the morning, afternoon, and evening.
Applicants who are bilingual (Korean and English), and who can translate and/or interpret, may have opportunities for administrative positions. There may also be administrative positions for those who are not bilingual.

Initial contracts are for one year and renewable upon satisfactory performance.
All applicants must meet the Korean government's eligibility requirements for an E2 visa for English teaching, though people who hold Korean F or E1 visas can also apply.
We require the following credentials:
A master's degree (education, English, TEFL/TESOL, or linguistics preferred) with a minimum of 24 months of full-time English teaching experience to adults*.
or
A Ph. D. or Ed. D. with experience taken into account but not required.
Work experience must be:
Full-time English teaching at a university, college or corporation (not from private academies), and
Verifiable through letters from employers with explicit dates or certificates of employment.
*Teaching experience at the primary or secondary level, with a government-issued teaching license, is acceptable, but it must come from the country that issued the applicant’s passport. Adjunct or part-time experience will be counted as half, e.g., two year of adjunct experience will count as one year for qualification and salary-determination purposes.
Your qualifying experience can't overlap with your qualifying degree and can't be part of a degree program (e. g. student teaching). If your master's degree took under 24 months to complete, we require more experience. The sum of experience and education must be 48 months or more; so, if your master's degree took 12 months, for example, we require 36 months of experience.
Successful applicants will complete an in-country medical exam.
Raises are awarded every two years and are based on your job performance. New teachers are eligible for a raise after completing two years of employment. Annual performance-based bonuses may also be available.
These benefits are based on your annual performance evaluation (APE) score.
Six weeks of paid vacation each year.
Basic health insurance: National Health Insurance plan.
Membership in the private Korea Teachers Pension (monthly contribution: approximately 9% of your salary).
New faculty mentoring program for all incoming professors.
Woosong-owned housing is provided upon availability on a year-by-year basis.
