QUEST Experiences

Question: Encourage curiosity in our learners.

Understand: Develop an understanding of themselves, others, and the world. 

Explore: Provide learners with opportunities to explore the world around them. 

Serve: Develop an attitude of serving others, knowledge to impact, and skills to implement. 

Travel: Equip learners with the skills for and love of travel. 

Academic Quests are designed with the purpose of supporting or extending the learning within the classroom, building in an experiential learning opportunity that is directly associated with the curriculum or standards.  

Impact Quests are designed to foster and enhance students’ well-being and interpersonal skills through opportunities that develop a deeper understanding of themselves and others, build positive relationships, and develop resilience in real-world contexts. By using our Impact Areas as a framework for these QUESTS, we will be able to dive deeper into the personal development that aligns with our school values.

Purpose:

• Reinforcement of our Impact Areas: QUEST trips focus on developing social-emotional skills, such as Be Self-Directed, Belong in Community, and Become Globally Mindful.

• Reinforcement of WSS Values: QUEST trips reinforce the WSS values of Respect, Environmental Conservation, Innovation, Connectedness, Passion

• Curricular Connections: QUEST trips reinforce curricular standards (real-world applications/Kenyan contexts) to deepen understanding, foster curiosity, and develop critical thinking skills by engaging directly with the subject matter in its real-life context.

• Cross-disciplinary Insights: QUEST trips facilitate collaboration across disciplines, allowing learners to apply their knowledge and understanding from different areas to address complex problems.

• Experiential Learning: On QUEST trips, students gain first hand experience from the society on how to handle resources and various projects in their curriculum. These experiences will allow learners to collect authentic data that may be difficult to obtain in a classroom setting. 

• Inclusive Learning Opportunities: QUEST trips create more opportunities for inclusive learning, interaction with peers, and applying learned skills in a real-world setting.

• Community Engagement: QUEST trips involve interaction with local communities or stakeholders, fostering collaboration, mutual understanding, and sometimes leading to participatory research approaches, in alignment with our service learning goals.
