November Update:
The Sulwe class has completed their first three units in French covering the basics: introductions, pronouns, school supplies, masculine and feminine nouns and possessive pronouns, describing where they live, rooms in a house, and some prepositions of place. They are well on their way to becoming more fluent! We will be continuing to build vocabulary and learning about present tense verb conjugation next term.
In Enjuba, students have finished the first two units of study and have learned about modes of transportation, French names for countries, and the future tense. They have been doing exceptionally well over-all and will continue reviewing topics from last year in addition to expanding their vocabulary and grammar skills to a deeper level. I am very proud of how much further they have taken their learning this term and hope that they will continue building their confidence over the coming weeks.
Enjoy the holidays! 🎄🎉
October Update:
This month students in Sulwe continued their learning with units of study about families and practiced further with masculine and feminine nouns. They also learned about possessive pronouns and how to say what belongs to themselves or someone else.
In Enjuba, students began learning about travel and how to say "in" or "at" a place. They are learning the names of countries in French.
It was a short month between the field trip and mid-term break, but students resumed their studies with vigor and will continue applying vocabulary and grammar throughout the rest of the term.
September Update:
The Sulwe class has had a very successful introduction to French. They have learned and practiced basic greetings and introductions, numbers, days of the week, school supplies, basic classroom phrases, masculine and feminine nouns and articles, and have learned to say where they live. Students had their first quiz and did amazingly well!
Our next units will be about family and friends. Students should continue studying vocabulary and grammar that has already been taught, as the vocab and skills will spiral throughout the year and will be revisited often. Students are also encouraged to look ahead at future units for vocabulary that they may already be familiar with to be better prepared for upcoming work.
In Enjuba, students have been learning about shops, food, shopping, partitive articles, and regular verbs from all 3 groups (-er, -ir, -re). We have completed our first unit of study and students are preparing for their first listening, reading, and writing quizzes on Friday, October 4th. I am proud of the confidence with which the students have approached their work and their engagement in lessons. Keep up the amazing efforts!
Coming up in the second half of the term, students will be learning about countries in Europe, making plans, using the future tense, and leisure activities. They will also be learning how to talk about a typical school day, their classes and extra-curricular activities, and forming opinions. I look forward to the learning and fun that we will have!
