Spectrum Club is... "A safe place where I feel like I can be myself. I'm not afraid to be who I am and be part of the community."
~ Sophomore - WMHS
"The reason I first joined spectrum freshmen year was because I never felt like I belonged anywhere all through middle school. I didn’t feel like I had anyone who understood who I was or what it was like to feel “not normal”. Spectrum is the thing that kept me in school because it felt like I finally found people who cared about the same things as me, and I finally was exposed to other queer kids like me. It’s always been a safe place for me to share my experiences and worries and it’s been a way to connect with other people in a way that I can’t do on a regular basis, in this straight white suburbia we live in."
~ Junior - WMHS
Spectrum Club is... "A place where people are able to feel comfortable with themselves and are able to voice their opinions about the political and social climate of the school, how students are treated, and how they can improve it for everyone."
~ Sophomore - WMHS
Spectrum Club is... "A place where others can openly be themselves and not have to hide behind walls and walls of security and false identity. Spectrum is a place where no one is judged for being themselves and be comfortable with the environment around them."
~ Sophomore - WMHS
Spectrum Club is... "One of only a few places I feel completely protected and comfortable in myself and my sexuality."
~ Sophomore - WMHS
Spectrum Club is... "It’s not just a club. Spectrum brings students together and lets them know it’s ok to be who you are. It provides a supportive environment to students whether they be a part of the LGBTQ+ community or not. It provides education to staff about issues their students may face. We, as a part of Spectrum, have created not only a club but a community too. We are creating change.
~ Senior - WMHS
Spectrum Club is... A place for me to truly be me without the fear of discrimination or prejudice, a place of security and love. But most of all, Spectrum is a family. Spectrum is the place where I get to see the people that I know care about me and my well being, all while assuring the well being of others, members or not.
