It was a night to remember and an honor to be in the presence of 130 LBGTQ youth and their straight allies. We witnessed new friendships, tears of joy, carefree dancing, freedom of expression, and a community supporting the youth. Events like this can be life-changing, but more importantly, life-saving.

"Helping plan Gayla was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It was months of hard work and making sure everything was right. The night of the dance was perfect. Over a hundred kids dressed in all different outfits. Prom gowns, jeans, semi-formal dresses, suits and ties. All dancing and eating together in a way they had never been able to do before. It was amazing to see and it was really emotional for all of us to be able to do this.
- Taylor MacHarrie, Spectrum Club GSA President and Student, Woburn Memorial High School
“The Gayla was really great, definitely better than any other high school dance I’ve been to. The music was actually good, which was surprising, and everyone was really nice. It was easy to meet new people and have conversations with strangers in a safe place. I know for a lot of people, it was nice to have someplace that they could be themselves, which made it even more enjoyable.”
- Melissa Ferranti., Spectrum Club GSA member and Student, Woburn Memorial High School
“The dance was surreal, so many people that thought they were an outcast, or different, came together. I left with new friends and amazing memories. It’s a night worth remembering. I felt safe and welcomed and like I didn’t have to worry about what others thought. We were all alike and happy.”
- Levi Duval, GSA President, Peabody Veterans Memorial High School
"The GSA dance was an amazing experience, the thought of being able to be yourself in a public space without being judged for it is everything people like me want."
- Yefry Ortiz, GSA Member, Peabody Veterans Memorial High School
"This dance was so important to me because it made me feel included and the fact that it was for the community just to have fun was amazing"
- GSA Member, Peabody Veterans Memorial High School
"This GSA Prom was just awesome, I am so happy we had that dance for the LGBTQ+ community and their allies to have fun! It made me and others feel accepting and welcoming!"
- Edson Uvalle, GSA Member Peabody Veterans Memorial High School
"I am an ally and I had so much fun and an amazing time with LGBTQ+ community. I hope we can have more GALAs like this"
- Brandon Uvalle, GSA Member, Peabody Veterans Memorial High School
“The Community Gala was an amazing event that promoted inclusivity and acceptance. I witnessed over 10 communities coming together to support students in their journey to be their real selves. I feel so fortunate to have been a part of the first gala and what I know will be a long lasting tradition for WMHS.”
- Jessica Callanan, Principal, Woburn Memorial High School
"The event was a wonderful night of inclusion and acceptance! The decor was festive and the buffet of food and desserts donated from local vendors was a great display of generosity and support. It was amazing for WMHS to host kids from area schools with their chaperones and celebrate individuality with pride and love! Celebrating with music and food could not have been more perfect in bringing people together to strengthen community ties. There was camaraderie and smiles all night! Hats off to the members of the WMHS spectrum club and their advisors Gretchen Pollard Ramos and Rosemary Donovan and committee for a successful event!"
