Keeping William & Mary a space for all
Keeping William & Mary a space for all
As federal conversations and policies surrounding D&I continue to shift, we will work to ensure that W&M remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting all students and the voices of underrepresented communities are heard in conversations that shape campus policy. We will advocate for clarity regarding how external policy changes impact campus programs, funding, and protections. Our belief is that decisions affecting inclusion must reflect the lived experiences of our student body.
We will work with campus partners and student organizations to ensure that LGBTQ+ students continue to feel safe, represented, and supported. We aim to strengthen and expand support for the Lavender House as a vital space for the LGBTQ+ community and belonging on campus. Beyond physical space, we will ensure that LGBTQ+ students continue to see themselves represented in campus leadership, policy decisions, and supported as an integral part of William & Mary.
In collaboration with the Office of First-Generation Student Engagement, our goal is to expand mentorship networks, resource visibility, and leadership pathways. We will advocate for incorporating first-generation programming into our university orientation cycle so students are introduced early to support systems, institutional knowledge, and spaces to build community.
At a university as diverse as ours, we believe that it is important to advocate for stronger integration efforts for immigrant, international, transfer, and non-traditional students. We will work with cultural organizations and university offices to ensure that these students are met with equitable resources and representation. By recognizing the various paths students take to W&M, we hope to build a community that values lived experience and global perspective.
We aim to continue efforts to support students with special immigration status and ensure they feel secure and informed on campus. We will continue to develop and work on resource cards to provide students with accurate and confidential support information to strengthen advocacy and awareness efforts. We will advocate for transparent communication from our university leadership when federal or state policy changes may impact our students.
We will work alongside Student Accessibility Services to improve clarity in accommodation processes and advocate for consistent implementation across our campus. We will encourage accessible event planning, stronger awareness of inclusion standards and work towards extending mobility shuttle service hours.
Transparency must begin with the Student Assembly itself, especially when decisions impact D&I initiatives. We will prioritize clear communication about what we are working on, how policies are developed, and how your input shapes outcomes. We will advocate for underrepresented communities and make sure that our policies become actionable items that are followed through, ensuring that student concerns are not only heard, but are acted upon. Student Assembly should be visible, responsive, and accountable, particularly when it comes to protecting and advancing inclusion on our campus.
