Assessment in education is essential for measuring the effectiveness of instruction and curricular design. The data obtained from formal and informal assessment is used to gain insight on the effectiveness of instructional pedagogy, to hone in on the individual needs of students. Assessment data is at the core of all instructional planning and program placement. Our students engage the local and state assessments noted below.

NJSLA is state assessment that is administered in the Spring. This assessment measures students proficiency with the NJ Student Learning Standards. Score reports are shared with parents in September.

Benchmark assessments are administered in September, January and June through the IXL platform. The purpose of these assessments is to measure student growth throughout the year. This data obtained from these assessments is used to customize programming and instruction for students.

SAGES - 3 is administered in the Late Spring & Fall and is used as one measure for identifying students for Academically Talented programming. The SAGES-3 is a norm-referenced screening test that identifies giftedness in students who are between the ages of 5 years 0 months (5-0) and 14 years 11 months. The assessment has four subtests (Nonverbal Reasoning, Language Arts/Social Studies, Verbal Reasoning, and Mathematics/Science). Results for the subtests and three composites (Reasoning Ability, Academic Ability, and General Ability) are reported as standard scores.

Fountas & Pinnell Running Records are administered each marking period. The purpose this one on one assessment is to determine students' independent and instructional reading levels.

At several points throughout the year, the enVision Math 2.0 progress monitoring assessments are administered to students. These assessment are a component of our Math enVision series, which is used for daily instruction. This data is used to plan for instruction and for student programming.

Savvas Math Readiness placement assessments are administered to students at the end of 6th and 7th grade. The results of these assessments are one measure considered in determining Math programming for the upcoming school year.

Formative assessment/progress monitoring is built into the Fundations® program with every single lesson. The teacher is able to assess students’ skills because instruction is visible and explicit, and all students are actively participating in the learning.
