Framing Model

12th Grade STEM Research

January 2022

Information

We started with a 4 foot crawlspace represented by the foam core walls. Above that we made the floor using balsa wood. After created the floor we each did one wall, I worked on the center wall with the door and my peers each did a window wall. During this project we all learned some of the basic yet important rules when building, such as each stud is 16" apart on center. I modeled doors and windows using headers, king studs, jack studs, and crippling studs. I modeled the sill plate, top sill, and top plate for the walls.

Summary

I collaborated with the two other architecture students in my STEM Class to create this scaled model of the framing for a room. We all had struggles throughout this project and found it frustrating to work with such small pieces but once we all finally finished we were pleased with the result.
