Our online newsletter for parents, carers and the community
We had a wonderful first half term and are racing towards winter and Christmas festivities! It was fantastic to be able to meet in person with so many of you for Parent Consultations. We are so proud of each and every one of the children and the progress they have made since September. We couldn't wait any longer to share what we've been up to since. Take a look...
On Friday 18th November, we thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the World Cup launch. Many of us were keen to come to school in sports kits and football strips. We have loved being able to watch matches in school and part in a range of football activities in our PE lessons.
Our teachers selected children from each class (Year 1-4) to go to the Beacon of Light in Sunderland, along with children from other WISE schools, to take part in a number of activities. We were in mixed groups and enjoyed making friends with children in our sister schools. The activities included fitness and match skills such as dribbling, shooting practice and mini matches. We then made flags and joined in with a parade.
At the end of this special event, we were all presented with a medal from the Sunderland professional women's football club!
* it was a joy to see the children grin from ear to ear all day. They certainly are a credit to us.
The cost of school meals is now ÂŁ2.10 a day (ÂŁ5.50 per week) for children in Preschool, Nursery, Year 3 and Year 4.
Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, alongside those registered for Free School Meals, will continue to receive their meal for free each day.
For children in Preschool - Year 2, all children have a school meal each day.
For children in Year 3 and 4 - children may opt to bring a packed lunch, but our preference would be that they continue to take a school meal.
At the moment, all children up to and including Year 2 are entitled to a free piece of fruit at breaktime through the Governent SFVS Scheme.
For children in Year 3 and 4, you are able to send your child into school with a healthy snack each day for them to eat at breaktime.
Please Remember - Meals should be booked and paid for in advance each week on the School Gateway App - Clubs section.
The children are loving their school meals! It's always a pleasure for the staff (and our visitors from Redbrick) to join the children and have a catch up about their day in school, their hobbies and interests. Lunchtime is such a valuable learning time for everyone in school!
Full menus are regularly updated on our school website and can be accessed using the links below.
We are so excited that we are able to attend our annual pantomime performance at Newcastle Theatre Royal on Wednesday 21st December 2022.
This is for Years 1-4. Thank you very much to all who have offered to help. Arrangements have been finalised.
We do have a small number of children who have not had their ticket paid for. Please ensure payment is made using the Gateway App.
We still have lots of pre-loved uniform available and many families have already benefitted from this scheme. Please complete the Swap Shop form on the website (link below) to request uniform.
We strongly encourage all parents to utilise this service.
The children in Science Club have been very busy this term. So far they have made their own meteorites, designed a lunar landing module that safely landed an astronaut (egg!) on the moon and used an online program called Stellarium to look at constellations. The highlight of the term was our visit to Kielder Observatory this Monday. The journey might have been long, but it was worth it to have a chance to use their biggest telescope, to handle rocks from space and to actually stand on a piece of Mars!

We have been meeting on a Thursday after school. We always start with a word game like Bananagrams or Boggle to increase our word power!
We also like to have a go at 'free writing' to let our imaginations flow and are working on stories and poems with no rules - just writing for pleasure. It's lots of fun and the time always flies by!
Lego Club is a wonderful after school club where children in Year Two have worked together to create some amazing Lego pieces including their dream home and the tallest statues based on a famous landmark. The children are also given challenges. One of these included building something that consisted of twenty pieces that would not break when dropped from a height. Lego Club will be available to other year groups throughout the year, so watch out for it!
We hope you enjoyed our performances. They are still available on our Facebook page if you missed them! Thank you so much for all of your donations. They were gratefully received by Miners Lamp Community Hub and distributed to those in need.
On Friday 18th November, as well as celebrating the launch of the World Cup, we also thought about those who are less fortunate than us when joining in with a range of Children in Need activities. The children had a great time dressing up. Thank you for your donations, we have forwarded these onto the charity and are sure they will help some fantastic causes.
As a result of your generous donations, we were able to fill EIGHT full family shoe boxes. These are on the way to some of the most poverty-stricken families in Ukraine, Bulgaria, Moldova and Romania.
Thank you so much for your contributions.
The children in Key Stage One have been amazing in Drawing Club. They have enjoyed looking at different techniques every week and using these in their weekly drawings. So far, we have focused on:
- Shading/smudging to create effect
- Step-by-step drawing to build upon out drawings and add more detail
- Pointillism, a technique using small dots to create an image
Still to come: Christmas drawings!
The children's enthusiasm and willingness to have a go at everything has blown us away! I have been so impressed with their amazing drawings.
*Drawing club will change to Reception children in the new year - please look out for more information on how to sign up closer to the time*
We are delight to welcome Mrs. Rachel Wheeler, our new Office Manager, to the team. She joins us with a wealth of experience and looks forward to getting to know everyone.
The lovely Mr. Sam Carson continues to work alongside her.
Thank you for your patience whilst we have been short staffed in the office.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch should you need any assistance.
We are here to help in any way we can so that your child feels safe, secure and able to reach their full potential. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if we can help in any way.
