Welcome to the Redwood Room!

Welcome to the Redwood Room, our mixed-age classroom where children are supported in becoming increasingly independent, capable, and confident members of their classroom community. With children at different ages and stages, the Redwood Room offers a rich environment for children to learn from one another while educators thoughtfully respond to each child’s individual development. As children move through the year, they are encouraged to take on more responsibility, express their ideas and needs, navigate social experiences, and develop the confidence to try something new.

Our classroom is fluid, dynamic and responsive to children's ideas and play schemas. Play, curiosity, and relationships continue to guide our days, while experiences become increasingly intentional and complex. Children have opportunities to investigate materials, develop ideas, collaborate with peers, solve problems, and revisit their thinking through art, dramatic play, storytelling, movement, science, and hands-on exploration. We place a growing emphasis on children’s ability to make choices, sustain their play, care for their classroom, and work together. Through these everyday experiences, children build the skills, confidence, and sense of agency that prepare them for the next chapter of their learning journey.
