Literature focus is based on different societies, flawed and idealized, analyzing decisions in light of the group. Literature includes: The Giver by Lois Lowry, Lord of the Flies by William Golding, and Our Town by Thorton Wilder.
Literature is focused on "who I am and what is my purpose?" We look at the Hero's Journey and character development. Literature includes: The Odyssey by Homer, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare and Night by Elie Wiesel.
Students take American Literature in parallel to American History, either their junior or senior year. Students read excerpts and short stories from the various time periods of American Literature in chronological order analyzing tone, theme, and mood to determine the author's intent.
British Literature is higher level, literature based course chronologically highlighting classic British literature. Students examine writing as a way to analyze a time period including how people lived and what their value system was.
