Learning the basics of the Faith & the Book in which it is found
The first half of the year, your teen will sequentially learn who God is, how His salvation plan unfolded, how to respond to it & how to grow in their faith. You could call this Discipleship 101. In the second half of the year, your teen will be equipped with a basic understanding of every book of the Bible & should be able to not only share them but also share what they are about. This will make the Word of God come alive to them & help them understand the context when Scripture is read at church and in their personal time with God.
Learning how to study, understand & apply the Bible to your life
After being taught how to dig in & get the most out of the Bible, the students will regularly put it into practice through independent journaling & praying through the New Testament. In our lessons, mostly in the New Testament focusing on Jesus or the apostles, your teen will see what it looks like to dig in & get everything you can from every story or teaching. Along the way, each will be challenged by the Word of God.
Learning how to share your faith & stand for Christ in a fallen world
Many Christians know how to be saved, but they have no idea how to share that with someone else. In the first half of the year, your teen will be given tools & opportunities to share their faith out loud. The end goal is for your teen to be able to disciple a new believer or someone who was never taught the basics of the faith. We have students who have taken this class & have gone on after graduation to lead discipleship classes themselves. This is so exciting! In the 3rd quarter of the year, we will cover hot topic issues where faith collides with a decaying culture. The goal is for each student to be able to see what the Word of God says about these issues and be able to communicate with those on the other side intelligibly & lovingly. In the 4th quarter of the year, we will look at the battle between good & evil and what our role is.
Learning the story of the Bible from Adam to Jesus
Throughout the year, your teen will sequentially learn the stories surrounding key people of God from Adam to Jesus. The goal is for them to be able to tell the story of the Bible like a relay race, the baton being passed from hand to hand until it is put in the hands of Jesus. Many Christians know individual stories of key people in the Bible but are not able to put all the pieces together sequentially. When combined with year 1, your teen will have a greater understanding of the Word of God and be able to communicate it confidently. In addition to the teaching, your teen will regularly be journaling & praying through the Old Testament.
I am the lead pastor at Tree of Life Church. I've been pastoring for over 30 years, alongside my lovely wife Melanie. My first 11+ years of ministry, I served as a pastor to teens. I have never lost my heart to make a difference in their lives. I love teaching & helping make the Word of God easy to understand. This is my 4th year teaching Bible at WCA and it has been very rewarding to see what God has been doing in this class.
