Designed to introduce students to American Sign Language, American Sign Language (ASL) I enables students to communicate with deaf persons through fingerspelling, signed words, and gestures. Course topics may include the culture of and issues facing deaf people.

American Sign Language (ASL) II builds upon skills developed in ASL I, extending students’ ability to understand and express themselves in American Sign Language and increasing their vocabulary and speed. Typically, students learn how to engage in discourse for informative or social purposes and to comprehend the language when signed slowly.

This basic course in the Spanish language will enable the student to learn vocabulary and grammar. Beginning conversation and short reading selections are also included in the class. Throughout the year students will be exposed to various aspects of the Hispanic culture.

Building upon the basics learned in Spanish I, this course will expand the student’s vocabulary and grammar and introduce additional verb tenses. More conversations will be presented and used, as well as working with additional reading selections. Continued exposure to the culture of Spanish-speaking countries is included.
