Darcey Blomberg

This is Mrs. Blomberg's sixth year at McKenzie and her eighth year teaching. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Special Education with a focus in Language Arts from Michigan State University. After two years of teaching third grade in Colorado, she completed her master’s degree in Special Education from Michigan State University. Mrs. Blomberg started her Wilmette teaching career in third grade, and then moved to fourth grade for four years. She is excited to be back in third grade as a remote teacher!

Outside of school, Mrs. Blomberg enjoys traveling, hiking, camping, exercising, reading, and cooking. She lives in Logan Square with her husband and Siberian Husky, Stark. Mrs. Blomberg is looking forward to meeting her new third graders!

Joanie Hartmann

Joanie Hartmann is starting her sixth year teaching and her third year at McKenzie Elementary School. Before teaching at McKenzie, she was a Behavior Specialist for the Anchorage School District. Prior to moving to Alaska, she taught 5th grade in Winnetka, Illinois and 4th grade in Waukesha, Wisconsin. She received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood from Carroll University in Wisconsin.

Mrs. Hartmann loves spending time with her new baby, Ollie (he is now 5 months!), and her family. In her free time, she enjoys reading, running, baking, being outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. Mrs. Hartmann attended McKenzie School as a student, and she is ecstatic to be teaching 3rd grade!

Deb Honigberg

Mrs. Honigberg has been teaching for twenty-nine years. She has been at Romona for 22 years as a third grade teacher, although she also attended Romona as a student (and lived on Romona Road)! Mrs. Honigberg has an undergraduate degree in Philosophy from Miami University. She received her J.D. from University of Cincinnati College of Law and her Masters of Arts in Teaching from National-Louis University. She spent her summer tutoring and playing at the dog park with her puppy, Theo.

Michelle Lawniczak

You may recognize Ms. Lawniczak as the McKenzie school librarian, but this year she will be taking on the role as a 3rd grade teacher! She had previously taught middle school science and will combine that passion with her love of books to create a successful and exciting learning environment. She has a B.S. in Elementary Education and English from Barat College, a M.S. in Library and Information Science from Clarion University, and a M.S. in Natural Resources and Environmental Science from the University of Illinois. She enjoys traveling, playing strategy games, hiking, dinosaurs, and Star Wars.
