This is Ms. Harney’s fifteenth year in the the Wilmette district! She is excited to teach 1st grade! She has previously worked for 5 years as a certified reading specialist and taught fourth grade for nine years at Romona. She has a wide range of experience all the way from early childhood to eighth grade. She has a middle school language arts and social studies endorsement, has taught EL (english learners) in the Cary School District, and completed the Global Student Teaching program in Dublin, Ireland. She earned her masters degree as a Reading Specialist from Concordia University. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a minor in psychology at DePaul University. She is passionate about literacy and helping students realize their limitless potential and unique contribution to the world. Ms. Harney loves working in the Wilmette 39 School District, where parents and community are passionate and supportive about education!

Allison Melowsky was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH and went to Indiana University (Go Hoosiers!). She considers herself to be a jack-of-all-trades in education, as she has taught 5 year-olds to 15 year-olds, from letter names and sounds to Algebra 2 & Geometry! Allison has spent the past 5 years working in Wilmette as Central’s Reading Specialist. This is her 14th year teaching and she is excited to be teaching Remote 1st Grade this year! Allison lives in Chicago (a few blocks from Wrigley Field!), with her wife, daughter (Parker), son (Zane), and their 2 beagle mixes (Ella & Charlie). This summer, Allison and her family spent most of their time outdoors! They enjoyed going to the beach, Midwestern travel, and family hikes. She also loves to cook, garden, and be active! Allison is excited to be working with Central and Romona 1st grade families this year and can’t wait for this new adventure!

After graduating from Texas Christian University with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, Ms. Young began her teaching career as an ESL kindergarten teacher. After a few years in the classroom, she attended the University of Illinois at Chicago to pursue her master’s degree in social work. Mrs. Young has experience teaching kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and fifth grade as well as being an instructional coach. In her free time she enjoys reading, being outdoors, and spending time with her friends and family.
