Hi there! Welcome to Nature Counts. Nature Counts is a biological recording and ecological monitoring platform developed by a group of Wildlife Trusts. Nature Counts is based on the Indicia open-source biological recording software toolkit.
In summary, Nature Counts is designed to
Enable anyone to submit a biological record to each Wildlife Trust's database
Hosted records with the Biological Records Centre so they can be shared with relevant organisations such as local environmental record centres and uploaded to the National Biodiversity Network Atlas
Provide space for local recording groups to host their records on Nature Counts (through things call 'Activities')
Enable Wildlife Trusts to run events such as bioblitzes - What is a bioblitz?ย
Provide a toolkit for Wildlife Trusts staff to use Nature Counts to store complex data from ecological surveys
Why not watch this video delivered for volunteers at Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust to get a feel for Nature Counts?

Hear it from the experts, here's a great blog from our friends at Field Studies Council about what is a biological record: https://www.fscbiodiversity.uk/blog/what-biological-record
Firstly we'd recommend you make an account
There are a couple of reasons why making an account is a good idea:
Keep track of your records and build up a list of species
Be able to edit a record after you've submitted it
You can join Activities to get involved with local groups
Find our when your record has been verified by a expert verifier
Find out how to make an account here and come back to this page when you've made you account.
Creating an account
Now you've made an account, fantastic! Time to submit your wildlife sighting.
If you've got a photo of some wildlife you've been meaning to record for a while, have it to hand and you can submit your record as you watch the following video.
Submitting your first record
Submitting one record at a time is great for the odd record here and there but sometimes you want to upload a whole list of records for one location, maybe you've been for a walk at a local nature reserve and want to record all your sightings! Watch the following video on how to submit a list of records
How to submit a list of records
Ok you've submitted some records, but maybe you wantย to download a list of all your records to shows your friends, or maybe a list of all the different species you've seen.
To do this we're going to an explore page. The first video gives you an overview of the explore pages, then the next video shows you how to create a species list.
There are lots of other videos about how to explore your records on the Exploring data help page.

Add a site to Nature Counts that you visit often to make it easier to add records for that place.
Activities are a great way to get involved with local groups such as bird groups, friends of societies and other such groups.ย
Well done, you're all set for submitting your biological records. Happy recording from everyone at the Nature Counts team!
