Species lists are initial based on the NBN Species list for either England or the Isle of Man (depending on which partner trust).
Details for these can be found here: https://docs.nbnatlas.org/sensitive-species-list/
England list is downloadable here: https://lists.nbnatlas.org/speciesListItem/list/dr2058 (information about it here: https://registry.nbnatlas.org/public/show/dr2058)
Isle of Man list is downloadable here: https://lists.nbnatlas.org/speciesListItem/list/dr1536 (information about it here: https://registry.nbnatlas.org/public/show/dr1536)
To edit your sensitive species list make sure you're logged in as an user with admin or survey admin privileges.
Then, click on 'Surveys' on the website then click on 'Setup sensitive species list'.
This will take you to this page:
Do not click on Edit or Delete - these will appear if you're logged in as Admin as opposed to Survey admin and these buttons edit or delete the whole page - not the species list. Don't edit the list title or list description either.
The only things you will do on this page is enter species into the 'Enter the list of items' box and click check.
To build your sensitive species list you add species names, best to do this with their scientific name, a new species on each row. For example you could type:
When you press 'check' a green tick will appear next to entries that are successfully matched to the Nature Counts species dictionary. For example all these entries were accepted:
If a match is not found then it will come up in red text:
If Nature Counts can't find an exact species match, it will give you some options for species in it's species dictionary. Click on the option you want to choose. And it should then have a tick next to it
Work through your species list until you've got lots of nice green ticks.
Don't forget to save your species list by clicking 'Save'!
This should now automatically make it so that when a species is selected on the enter a casual records or enter a list of records page it is automatically listed as sensitive.
Note: If you add a species to this list at a later date then it won't automatically mark all records from before you made the change as sensitive.
