Managing users
If you're logged in as the Admin, click on the 'People' tab in the admin bar:
If you're logged in with an account that has the user admin role click on the Manage users link in the main menu:
Roles
There are a set or roles a user can have, a user can have multiple roles.
Anonymous
Can submit records on
Authenticated user
Can submit records, and view 'My records'
Staff
Can view 'All records'
Survey admin
Can create and edit protocols
User admin
Can manager users /admin/people
The main page at .../admin/people has a big table of users with their username, status (whether their account is blocked or active), their roles, how long they've been a member for, when they last logged in (great for being nosey about who's using Nature Counts, and who isn't!) and the edit button.
Inviting new users
Click on the blue '+ Add user' button
Fill in the following data (example on the right):
Email address: their work email address
Username: can be any text but I usually just use their work email address again
Password: some random text - they have to reset their password when they create their account so it doesn't matter what you put here:
Confirm password: the same piece of random text
Status: Active
Roles: Staff (if a staff user) and survey admin if they are going to be making surveys
Notify user of new account: TICK THIS BOX or they won't get an email about their new account - if you forget to tick this then they can log in with the random text that you set as their password
Picture: ignore
First name: self explanatory
Last name: self explanatory
Contact settings: ignore
URL alias: ignore
Then click on create new account and you're done
Changing the role of users
On the big table of users:
Click on Edit in the operations column
Scroll down to the roles section and tick/untick the roles you want to change:
Then click on save:
Spam users
Occasionally spam bots will sign up to make an account. You can identify them because their username is 2 random words like spaghettipenguin and they have weird email addresses.
