I can't quite believe the children have already completed their first half term in Reception! They have settled in brilliantly, and we are all so proud of them. I hope you all have a fantastic half-term break and the children have lots of fun. I look forward to seeing everyone when we return.

Just a quick reminder that PE day is Wednesday and Forest School day is Friday.

Story Morning 

Change of day!

Story Morning will now happen every Tuesday.

This week in our maths sessions, Seedlings Class  have been working really hard to understand one more and one less than a given number.

Reading Books have been sent home with instructions about the systems we use to record home reading and how/when we change the books. 

This week in phonics we have bene securing our phonics knowledge and applying the skills to our reading. 

We also start our more formal handwriting sessions when we return. I will share the children's progress with you on dojo.

I have sent home some phonics and reading homework in their bags this week. Please retune it when we are back at school. 

Our Drawing Club Text is: Room on the Broom

Key Vocabulary

Whoosh: It's the sound something makes when it moves really, really fast in the air

Splat:It's the sound and feeling when something soft and wet hits the ground.

Scaly:has a skin that is covered in tiny, hard, overlapping plates, like the Dragon 

Horrible:This means something is very, very bad or makes you feel unhappy 

Passenger: This is a person who is riding in a car, bus, train, or plane, but they are not the one driving or flying it- Animals on the broomsticks were passengers 

Addition: It means getting more!

Fiery:looks like it's made of fire or is very, very hot and bright, like the sun. The dragon blew a fiery breath!

Swoop: this is when something, usually a bird, flies down very quickly in a curve to get closer to the ground or to grab something. The broomstick swooped to the ground

Maths

This year in maths, we will be focusing on building children’s early counting skills through the five key counting principles. These are:

• The One-to-One Principle – children learn to match one number name to each object, making sure they only count each object once.
  
  

• The Stable Order Principle – children understand that numbers must be said in a fixed order when counting.
  
  

• The Cardinal Principle – children realise that the last number they say when counting represents the total amount in the group.
  
  

• The Abstraction Principle – children learn that we can count anything, not just objects we can touch, but also sounds and actions like claps or jumps.
  
  

• The Order-Irrelevance Principle – children understand that objects can be counted in any order, and the total will still be the same.
  
  

By exploring these principles in fun and practical ways, we will help children develop strong foundations for their mathematical learning
