Welcome to Ash Class!

We have had another fantastic week in Ash Class.

Just a quick reminder that PE and Forest School days have now swapped - PE is now on a Wednesday and Forest School is on a Friday.

This week in Ash Class:

In Phonics, we have continued to practice our first Phase 5 sounds.

'ay' makes an 'ai' like in play

'ea' makes an 'ee' like in treat

'oy' makes an 'oi' like in enjoy

'ou' makes an 'ow' like in sound

We have been identifying our new digraphs within words and have practiced writing words containing these words. We have also worked hard to apply some of our new GPCs in our Drawing Club codes.

The activities below will support your child to further develop the skills we have been working on throughout the week.

This week in Drawing Club, we have looked at the story 'Monkey Puzzle'. 

We have learnt 6 new vocabulary words this week:

Bewildered

Feeling confused and not understanding what is happening.

Monkey is bewildered when Butterfly keeps taking him to animals that look nothing like his mum!

Perched

Sitting safely on a high branch or edge, just like a bird.

The parrot is perched high up in the jungle trees when Monkey and Butterfly spot it.

Slither

To slide smoothly along the ground on your belly.

Butterfly leads Monkey to a snake that can slither around the tree trunks.

Gigantic

Super huge, giant, and bigger than usual.

The elephant is gigantic, with big stomping feet and a long trunk!

Search

To look around very carefully to find something lost.

Monkey and Butterfly search all over the busy jungle to find where Monkey's mum is hiding.

Reunited 

Coming back together after being apart for a while.

Monkey is overjoyed when he is finally reunited with his mum and dad at the end of the story.

We have wrote special codes describing the monkey's Mum to help the butterfly search for her and describing how the monkey could travel through the jungle to meet his Mum.

The children continue to amaze us with their amazing writing!

In Maths, we have been continuing to learn about place value. This week we have been introduced to our greater than, less than and equal to symbols. We have compared these to crocodiles who are extremely hungry so always like to eat the greatest/ biggest number.

We started the week using lollypop sticks to represent each symbol when comparing groups of objects before comparing numerals. The children have all worked extremely hard in Maths this week and we are all so proud of the incredible progress they are making.
