- The Blizzard of 1888, also referred to as the Great White Hurricane, was one of the most severe blizzards on record.
- The Flood of 1955 devastated Connecticut. Hurricane Connie and Hurricane Diane hit Connecticut one right after another leaving behind over 20 inches of rain causing Connecticut's Rivers to overflow.
- The Hartford Circus Fire happened on July 6, 1944, during a Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus performance.
- The Hurricane of 1938, also called the Great New England Hurricane or the Long Island Express, hit Connecticut on September 9, 1938.
- King Philip's War was a conflict between the native people and the colonists.
- The Pequot War was a conflict between the Pequot tribe and the colonists.
