OVERVIEW
ROTOR CABINET
The Rotor Cabinet plug-in in Logic Pro emulates the sound of a classic rotating speaker cabinet, like the Leslie® units used with vintage Hammond B3 organs. It recreates the motion, depth, and Doppler effect of spinning speakers to add natural movement, warmth, and stereo width to your sound. Ideal for keyboards, guitars, and even vocals, the Rotor Cabinet can be used subtly for realism or dramatically for swirling, psychedelic effects.
Mic Processing Section: Adjusts tonal balance between the Horn (high frequencies) and Drum (low frequencies). The Balance knob blends the two, letting you emphasize brilliance or low-end depth.
Motor Section: Controls the Acceleration (how quickly the rotors ramp up or slow down) and Max Rate (the top rotation speed), allowing smooth transitions between Slow, Brake, and Fast modes.
Rotation Slider: Switches between Slow, Brake, and Fast speeds to control rotor motion in real time — ideal for expressive transitions and dynamic modulation.
Cabinet Type Menu: Selects between different rotary speaker cabinet models, each with unique tonal and spatial characteristics.
Deflector Button: Toggles the upper rotor’s sound deflector simulation on or off, affecting how the high frequencies move and project in stereo.
Mic Position Button: Switches between Front and Rear mic placements, changing the perceived distance, warmth, and room tone.
You want to add authentic movement to organ or electric piano parts.
You need vintage-style motion for guitars, synths, or pads.
You’re crafting psychedelic, soulful, or gospel-inspired textures.
You want to give static sounds a sense of depth and organic motion.
“Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”
“Cold Shot” – Stevie Ray Vaughan
“Whiter Shade of Pale” – Procol Harum
“Let It Be” – The Beatles
Subtle Movement: Set Mic Distance wider and use Slow speed for gentle stereo animation on pads or keys.
Classic Organ Sound: Use Fast speed with moderate Drive and a balanced Mic mix for that signature Hammond swirl.
Automation Trick: Automate the speed switch between Slow and Fast to mimic the expressive ramping of a real Leslie cabinet.
Creative Use: Try it on vocals or guitars for a swirling, 3D modulation effect that adds unique character.
