June 2021

Students have been learning about Piping Plovers, an endangered bird that we find on our own ocean beaches! We talked about why these birds are so important, and ways we can help protect them. Students created beautiful simple pencil drawings of these birds.

Headphone Design

This month, students designed their dream headphones using symmetry, pattern, collage, and geometric shapes! They did an amazing job realizing their design ideas!

2nd Grade has been looking at the rich history of textiles + weaving in Peru - including how it has influenced contemporary artists, as well as how it inspires their own weavings.

Tacky Sweater Contest!

All of 2nd Grade participated in a Tacky Sweater Contest this December and January focusing on many different patterns (the more the better!), effects of complimentary colors, and embellishments. We learned about and applied visual "loudness" with much success!

Students have been learning to identify geometric and organic shapes as we looked at Henri's works and begin to create out own cutout collages!
