By reading the video script, students will be able to identify new words, and try to guess their meanings by the context with 100% accuracy.
120-minute lesson
Gain Attention: Ask learners about a time when they were talking to someone in a second language and suddenly they could not find a word to express their ideas. How did they feel? What did they do? Have they been doing something to improve their vocabulary? Access a slide presentation below.
Build Motivation: Tell them reading is a great way to improve their vocabulary. Watching their favorite programs subtitled in the language they are learning is also useful.
Tell the students they are going to read the transcript from the video they watched in lesson 1. While they are reading for the first time, ask them to type different words they encounter on their iPads. Second time reading, they should try to guess the meaning by the context. Use a collaborative tool for this activity; click on the picture to access the word list document and share with your students.
At this step, students will try to type possible meanings or synonyms for the words. After this activity, there will be a vocabulary revision, discussing it with the whole class.
