David Rudolf is a partner at the Law Firm of Rudolph Widenhouse located in Charlotte, North Carolina. He attended Rutgers University and the London School of Economics and received his J.D. from the New York University School of Law. He served as an Adjunct Professor at both Duke University School of Law and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law. Rudolf has been practicing criminal defense and complex litigation in both federal and state courts for more than 40 years.
In 2014, Rudolf served as local counsel in Durham, North Carolina for New York City lawyer Barry Scheck, who was hired by falsely accused Duke lacrosse player Reade Seligmann to represent him in a civil lawsuit filed against the city of Durham and its former district attorney, Mike Nifong. The case was settled with the city giving the falsely accused players no money, but donating $50,000 to the North Carolina Innocence Inquiry Commission. Rudolf also served as the Plaintiff's attorney on behalf of several wrongfully convicted individuals in North Carolina, including Floyd Brown, Greg Taylor, Lamont Armstrong and Alan Gell.
David will discuss the conflicts he wrestled with in determining whether to let the filmmakers follow him, his client and his trial preparation, and his insights into the most curious and contentious issues in the case, including the blood spatter evidence, the bisexuality and Germany evidence of the other woman who died at the base of the staircase, the discovery of the blow poke, and the genesis of the Owl Theory. David recently received the 2018 Trinity Praeses Elit Award in Dublin, Ireland for his appearance in “The Staircase.”
