We are pleased to present our March program: “Collaborative Law Practice.” The program will be presented by Attorney John Sarratt. Collaborative Law Practice is a fascinating alternative to traditional litigation. In Collaborative Law Practice, both sides agree that their attorneys (and their law firms) will withdraw from further representation if the case does not settle. As a result, cooperation and settlement are encouraged, while delay and “Rambo-style” litigation tactics are discouraged. Collaborative Law Practice has gained recognition in the area of family law. This presentation will introduce you to collaborative law and efforts of a group of North Carolina lawyers to apply these principles to the resolution of business disputes.
John Sarratt has over forty years of experience in a wide-ranging commercial litigation practice, representing every size business from sole proprietors to multi-national corporations. Mr. Sarratt’s practice is in both state and federal courts, at both the trial and appellate levels. Before joining Harris Sarratt & Hodges, Mr. Sarratt was a partner at the law firms of Brooks Pierce, Kilpatrick Stockton, and Kennedy Covington. Mr. Sarratt received his bachelor of arts, with highest honors, in Economics and Political Science from the University of North Carolina in 1969, where he was a Morehead Scholar and Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his J.D., with honors, from Harvard University in 1972. Mr. Sarratt is also a trained arbitrator and certified mediator.
