Pewter Casting - Real life problem solving / Metal working / manufacturing a mould for casting / CAD/CAM Corel draw / technical drawing / metal finishing techniques / packaging design.

Audio Amplifier - Real life problem solving / researching principles of sound and amplification / traditional wood working techniques / promoting the product.

Course details
Introduction to hand and machine sewing. Design and make projects. Natural and synthetic fibres.
Programme of study Y7
Theory: Health and safety in the classroom.
4 natural fibres: cotton, linen, wool, silk.
Fabric construction: weaving, knitting, bonded.
Textiles all around us.
Practical: Rug making. Small drawstring bag. Sample of a seam and hem. French knitting.

Theory: 4 Synthetic fibres: acetate, viscose, nylon, polyester.
Looking at clothes' labels.
Practical: Making a zipped up pencil case. Sewing machine test drive. Tie and dye. Batik. Knitting.
Programme of study Y9
Design work: Pupils are to produce 4 versions of one design idea.
Term 1: Design and make an apron.
Term 2: Design and make a tote bag.
Term 3: Design and make a cushion with an envelope back opening.
Self evaluation after product is finished.
Wordsearch on labels & fashion.
Assessment
Year 7 & 8: One practical assessment at the end of term.
Year 9: Design work assessed in week 4. Practical assessed at the end of term.
