Course details
Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so, increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.
KS3 Music encourages pupils to build on their previous knowledge and skills through performing, composing and listening. They develop their vocal and/or instrumental fluency, accuracy and expressiveness; and understand musical structures, styles, genres and traditions, identifying the expressive use of musical dimensions. They use technologies appropriately and appreciate and understand a wide range of musical contexts and styles.
Programme of study Y7
Term 1- Keyboard Skills (Emphasis on theory understanding) and Ukulele Skills.
Term 2- Boom whacking Elements (Emphasis on theory and understanding) and African Drumming (Highlight performance qualities).
Term 3- Singing (emphasis on manipulating elements of music for a more effective performance) and Stomp
Programme of study Y8
Term 1- Song writing (Emphasis on chords I, IV and V in key of C) and Hooks & Riffs.
Term 2- Reggae (Emphasis on chords I, IV and V in key of C) and Blues (Remind students of notes on stave and emphasis on chords I, IV and V).
Term 3- Mickey Mousing
Programme of study Y9
Term 1 and 2- Music for Film and Ensemble (Emphasise importance of changing elements of music for a more effective performance).
Term 3- Group Competition Project.
Assessment
Assessment records are kept for each unit of work based on skills, commitment and conduct. Student grades appear on their annual report.
