Advisory
This week we continued to work on our Celebrating Me project. Some awesome words students used to describe themselves were: funny, kind, smart, human, creative, confident, and more! Be sure to check out the display in the cafeteria during our International Festival!
Odds and Ends
SOS Camp
On Wednesday, April 24th through Friday, April 26th, our 6th Grade classes will be going to Sierra Outdoor School. As of April 3rd, we have only received 46% of our grade level goal. Help us to continue to host these engaging field lessons to extend our Explorers’ learning! Please access the QR code on the field lesson permission slip or CLICK HERE to donate for grade level field lessons.
If your child is staying behind, they will still come to school on Wednesday, April 24th-Friday, April 26th at the normal time. Mrs. King will be here for them and they should report to her classroom. She will let them know what their schedule for the week will be.
If your child is attending SOS camp, we will be sharing their groups with them the Tuesday we come back from Spring Break. There is a packing list posted on their Google Classrooms with all of the details on what to bring.
Note #1: We will provide sack lunches on day 1, even though it says on the packing list to bring a lunch.
Note #2: Please have them keep their phones, watches, and other Internet connected devices at home.
Note #3: Keep an eye on the weather that week and have your child throw in an extra set of shoes in case their main pair gets wet or dirty. Also, we will be out at nighttime, so have them bring warm clothing.
Note #4: Please have your child arrive at school by 6:50 on Wednesday, April 24th. The bus departs at 7:15.
Westlake News
19th Annual International Festival:
Our 19th Annual International Festival is just around the corner on Saturday, April 27th! This community event is a family favorite that helps celebrate Westlake’s diversity. In order to continue to host this spectacular event, we need your support. It’s not too late to sign up to plan, volunteer at the event, donate equipment, bake or purchase desserts for the Dessert Walk, or host a cultural booth.
Cultural Booths: We currently have 10 booths signed up, but our goal is to see as many countries and cultures represented as possible. Cultural Booth hosts may provide a small sampling of native cuisine, cultural artifacts, and/or a children’s activity/game - the booth can be as simple or complex as you would like. Hosts are reimbursed up to $150 for booth expenses. CLICK HERE to sign up to host a Cultural Booth.
Dessert Walk: Want to show off your baking skills? CLICK HERE to donate desserts for the Dessert Walk.
Equipment & Supplies: Equipment and supply donations are also needed (pop-up tents, ice chests, tables, drinks, ice). CLICK HERE to sign up to donate or lend us your equipment.
Volunteers: The success of this event greatly depends on the support of our volunteers. There are still many opportunities available and it is a chance to get those volunteer hours in during the last trimester! CLICK HERE to sign up for a shift.
