And that's a wrap! Another successful school year completed. Congratulations to the Westfield High School Class of 2023! I wish you all well as you take an exciting next step in your life's journey.

At the June 13, 2023 meeting of the Board of Education, Superintendent Dr. Raymond González presented the Draft Goals and Objectives for the 2023-2028 Strategic Plan, which reflect the following five areas of focus: Teaching and Learning, Safety and Wellness, Finance and Facilities, Leadership and Governance, and Community and Culture.
As previously shared in an email to the school community, the Board and district administration value and welcome feedback from the Westfield community. We appreciate you taking the time to review the draft Goals and Objectives below and complete THIS FORM to share your thoughts and suggestions no later than Friday, June 23, 2023.
PLEASE NOTE: Work to develop specific Action Items related to each Goal/Objective will continue over Summer 2023.
Project Build students at Roosevelt brainstormed, designed, and developed an original idea for a board game, using multiple forms of technology, including the 3D printer and laser cutter, to create the gameboard, game pieces, instructions, and a logo.
The McKinley 5th Grade Roller Coaster Kerfuffle challenged student engineers to create designs made of cardstock and tape. Visitors were asked to launch a marble from top to bottom. Special thanks to Mr. Hannis, the entire Grade 5 team, and the PTO for this collaborative STEM project.
WHS seniors in the Math of Personal Finance courses visited Wall Street for a 2-hour guided tour of the financial district. Students interacted with financial professionals, engaged in a stock trading simulation, and learned about the many facets of the U.S. financial system.

Franklin 3rd graders enjoyed a great trip to Ellis Island, a culmination of their study of immigration.
As part of the gardening unit, Pre-K students at Lincoln read "The Tiny Seed" by Eric Carle and planted their own tiny seeds.

Our media library specialists, language arts teachers, K-12 Supervisor of English Language Arts Elizabeth Reilly, and the Westfield Memorial Library have compiled Summer Reading lists sure to entice your child. Check out the Summer Reading program at the WML and visit the Edison/Roosevelt Summer Reading site and WHS Summer Reading site for ideas.
Parents/Guardians will be required to complete the August Back-to-School packet of forms before class lists will be released.
Parents/Guardians will be encouraged to use Genesis to report a child's absence.
Intermediate/High School students will receive their own Genesis account; however, access to certain information and permissions will be limited to parent/guardian accounts.

Heritage, History and Religious Observances for Summer 2023
Independence Day is a U.S. federal holiday celebrated on July 4 to mark the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
Muslim Americans will observe the Islamic New Year, or Hijri, on July 19. According to the Islamic Networks Group (ING), the Hijri calendar is "a lunar rather than a solar calendar, and therefore depends on the sighting of the new moon or crescent to determine the start of each month."
Proclaimed in 2011 by the United Nations General Assembly, July 30 marks the International Day of Friendship with the "idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures, and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities."
The Board of Education held a Regular Public Meeting/Reorganization Meeting on June 13. The last regular public meeting of the Board for the 2022-2023 will be on Tuesday, June 27 in Cafeteria B at Westfield High School.

The Westfield Public School District is seeking Substitute Teachers who hold appropriate credentials. The district accepts candidates with a Standard Certificate, CEAS, CE, or a current County Substitute Certificate. The district also is seeking substitute paraprofessionals and secretaries.
