My name is Jami Patton. The 2025-2026 school year will be my 21st year at Wilder, and my tenth in 3rd Grade. I previously taught first grade downstairs. I am a graduate of Westerville North High School, Otterbein College (undergrad), and Marygrove College (Master's). My husband and I have 2 daughters (7th and 8th graders) that also attend Westerville City Schools. They are both competitive dancers, so their classes keep us pretty busy!
If you ever need to contact me, please feel free to do so, especially through e-mail or your child's Partner Pad. I can usually check e-mail 3 times a day (in the morning, specials/lunch, and after school), so I can get back to you a lot faster. If we work together, I believe we can have a wonderful and productive year with your student.
Mrs. Patton
All students have access to our single sign-on program, Clever, at home. From there, students can login to a variety of programs (iReady, Lexia, BrainPop, Schoology, and Studies Weekly) to work on reading.
In August, all students are assessed using the iReady program. This will tell us if your student is on track; if they are not, a Reading Improvement Monitoring Plan will be written and presented to your family at conference time in October. We will be working hard all year to help your child grow as a reader. We will be using Wit and Wisdom for our reading program this year. We are excited to begin our journey into outer space for the second semester. You can check out the family tip sheet to the right---------------->
As you may know, Ohio has implemented The Third Grade Reading Guarantee. The OST is given twice in a school year (October and April). The video to the right from the Ohio Department of Education helps explain the Third Grade Reading Guarantee.
Students can access the practice test site from their Schoology account as well as here. Simply click "Sign In", change the drop down box to grade 3, and pick the sample assessment you would like to work with.
In unit 5, we will describe quadrilaterals, or 4 sided shapes. We will also continue to find the area and perimeter of rectangles and work more with fractions, which is something we have been doing for several months in Number Corner. You will find examples of this in the letter to the right. It is also in your student's binder.
Expect to see math homework come home on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the school year. If you would like MORE practice, please consider getting a set of flashcards in addition and subtraction to practice fact automaticity. In the spring, you can add multiplication. Students can also practice on iReady. It is linked through their Clever account.
Below, you will find valuable strategy posters that are posted in our classroom. You can also use the free Bridges Math Apps if your child needs them to help with their homework.
Below are some of the supplies that we tend to use a lot (and run out of!) in 3rd grade. If you would like to donate, it is MUCH appreciated!
Hand Sanitizer
Tissues
Clorox Wipes
Playground toys (jump ropes, sidewalk chalk, balls, etc.)
Indoor recess games or coloring books
