Welcome to Third Grade! I am Beth O'Reilly. I am so excited that your son or daughter will be joining me on a new adventure this year! This is my 30th year teaching in Westerville. I am a life long learner, so I am always going to workshops, reading professional books, and taking classes. I am READY and EXCITED to be able to start the year with EVERYONE!!
A Little about me: I am a busy mom of four active kids. My oldest graduated from Bluffton University and is working on his MBA at Bluffton. He will be graduating in the Spring. My twin daughters are in college too! One is at Xavier University in Cincinnati and the other will be taking classes at Otterbein this Fall. Lastly, is our son Quinn. He is an Freshman at Olentangy Orange High School this year! We are busy with many sporting events and now, boating adventures. We inherited a boat last year!!
I am sure that you are busy too, so I am hoping that this website will help make life a little easier for you!
For the first 20 days of school, we will be building our classroom community by learning what Reading to Self looks like and sounds like in the classroom. It is critically important for each child to spend time reading; research shows that the more time students spend reading independently on books that are at a just right level and of interest, the better readers they become (National Reading Panel, 2000). We will also be writing about reading and writing through out new Wit and Wisdom program. From what I understand, Wit and Wisdom has some similarities to Geodes (Second Grade Reading Program), but is also VERY different. Our Wit and Wisdom program is very rigorous, but also VERY engaging! We will work our way through four modules; The Sea, Outer Space, A New Home (immigration), and Artists Make Art (learning about Biographies/autobiographies). Another important change for this school year is that your child will be taking their first OST, Ohio State Test in the Fall and again in the Spring. To monitor and support your son or daughter, we will also be conducting assessments to see your child's strengths and weaknesses in both Math and Reading. We use a tool called i-Ready. This level will help me monitor, support, and enrich your son or daughter throughout the school year. I will be sending home many updates and helpful resources throughout the year to support your child as a reader, writer, mathematician, scientist, and a leader. I can't wait to see all the things your son or daughter will accomplish this year!
