As a member of the Korean club, I have been doing several activities to share about South Korea in many aspects such as the culture and language. All of those experiences were very appreciated to me as a Korean to have an opportunity to be able to promote Korea, especially our Korean culture to people of numerous nationalities who are interested. Our Korean club members commemorated Hangul Day, a national holiday that marks the invention and proclamation of the Korea Alphabet called Hangul, by making a poster and providing an explanation about it through the official Wells Korean Club Instagram account. Not only that, but we also taught Primary students online about Hangul day by telling them about our language structure and origin as well as the traditional Korean activity known as the Ddakji game, which was one of the proudest moments to be a part of the club.
This time, I had a chance to participate in the CAS showcase. We have planned together to choose the song, practice dancing individually, and then learn the dance formation together before the performing day. We swimmingly picked a song and started practicing to be familiar with the detailed dance moves as soon as possible. Although there were some difficulties due to the Covid-19 situation in Thailand, we were able to adjust to the current situation, find the best place and time to practice, and soon our dance moves gradually began to match each other. Our song choice was "Eleven" by IVE and "Smiley" by Yena (feat. Bibi). These two Kpop songs have a fast melody and beat, which was the reason why I had to spend a long time for my body to dance accurately to the speed of the song. As K-pop songs are gaining popularity around the world, I also wanted to present a good performance with these songs. Therefore, during the Songkran break, we scheduled to meet and practice together as a team for a final time before performing on April 20th. It was a little difficult to coordinate the schedule of the group of people, but in the end, I could make a reservation for a dance practice room and succeeded in practicing together satisfactorily. However, the school soon announced that the CAS showcase had been postponed to May 20th. Hence, we modified some parts of our plan and get ready with the changed schedule.
This experience, not only gave me a new hobby and skill, in which I didn't have many chances to dance, but I also learned how to work, practice together and share opinions as a team with the same goal, and improve coordination between team members to work as a group effectively. Furthermore, I acquired skills in smoothly dealing with when there is either a mistake or a change in the original plan.
We performed the K-pop dance that we had been practicing for a few months to other students and teachers as an opening show of the CAS showcase. Luckily, this video doesn't show how nervous I was!!
When I was waiting for the MC to call out our name, my heart couldn't stop trembling. However, as soon as I stood in front of the audience, I could immediately focus on the song and our dancing. It was such a satisfying experience!
