The Korean Club decided to organize a K-pop dance performance for International Day. This event was a significant step for us as we aimed to include not only recent popular songs but also some older tracks that might be unfamiliar to many. Our goal was to create a performance that everyone could enjoy, and to achieve this, we invited members from other clubs to join us in dancing on a larger scale than usual.
To begin with, we held several meetings to vote on the K-pop songs we would perform, assign roles, and discuss the overall theme of our performance. This planning phase was crucial and showcased my ability to initiate and plan a CAS experience from start to finish. It involved gathering ideas, organizing rehearsals, and ensuring that every participant was well-prepared, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to planning and execution.
One of the significant challenges we faced was coordinating the practice sessions. Given the larger scale of the performance and the involvement of members from various clubs, it was not easy to teach the choreography and manage the formations. We had to check everyone's schedule meticulously and ensure we had enough practice time that fit into everyone's timetable. This process was a new challenge for us and required developing new skills in scheduling and time management. It also pushed us to enhance our teaching methods to accommodate the larger and more diverse group of performers.
Throughout this experience, commitment and perseverance were key. The Korean club members, especially those familiar with the performance process, showed regular involvement and active engagement. They helped teach the choreography and worked collaboratively to ensure that everyone was well-prepared. This demonstrated our dedication to the project and the importance of teamwork in achieving our goals.
On International Day, despite the initial nervousness, our performance went very well. The audience enjoyed the songs we selected, and we received numerous compliments after the performance. This success highlighted the benefits of working collaboratively and the value of everyone's efforts. The collaborative efforts were crucial in making the performance a success, as each member contributed their skills and supported one another throughout the process.
Reflecting on this experience, I feel a great sense of pride and fulfillment. It was gratifying to see our hard work pay off and to witness the positive reception from the audience. This project allowed me to identify my strengths in organizing and leading a large-scale event, while also highlighting areas for growth, such as enhancing my skills in choreography instruction and time management.
Learning Outcomes:
1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
5: Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively
During Sports Day, we had the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports and compete against other grades. With prior experience in basketball, I decided to join the basketball team. However, since I hadn't played in a while, it was initially challenging to keep up with the fast pace of the game. Many team members were also not very experienced, which added to the difficulty. Fortunately, two members of our team who are part of the school basketball team were instrumental in motivating us and providing strategic advice. Through teamwork and determination, we won our first game. Although we didn’t win all subsequent games, we remained proud of our efforts and each other's contributions.
This collaborative spirit extended to the next day when we had football matches. Unlike basketball, my experience with football was mostly as a spectator, not a player. I aimed to be as helpful as possible by defending my assigned position and listening to the more skilled players' advice. Despite the tough conditions under the direct sunlight, our team managed to win several matches.
Reflecting on this experience, I identified my strengths in collaboration and teamwork. I realized that my ability to adapt and contribute, even in sports where I lacked confidence, was a valuable skill. However, I also recognized areas for growth, such as improving my stamina and understanding of football strategies. This experience of undertaking new challenges and developing new skills was enriching and fulfilling.
This Sports Day also highlighted the benefits of working collaboratively. The advice and motivation from the more experienced basketball players were crucial to our initial success. In football, learning from and supporting each other helped us win matches despite our varying skill levels. The collaborative effort was essential in overcoming challenges and achieving our goals.
Altogether, Sports Day was a significant learning experience. It emphasized the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and stepping out of my comfort zone. The skills I developed and the lessons I learned about collaboration will be valuable in future CAS experiences and beyond.
