Basketball is one my favorite sports, I started playing basketball when I was around 9-10 years old. At first I mainly started playing as it was a way for me to be able to connect with my teammates and classmates. As it was around the time when I also first moved from Turkey to Thailand. As a kid who hasn't even been a teen yet, it started as a struggle for me to be able to interact with other kids. Being able to start playing sports, trigger my extrovert side to be able to come out. Basketball really helped me deal with stress and anxiety, it helped me go out of my comfort zone and being able to interact with other players, and mainly helped me become who I am right now.
One funny thing is that many of my teammates and opponents kept saying how I was such a scary person on the court, as I never smiled and always had a serious face on while after the game finished I would go back to my smiling and laughing face even if we had lost. I thought about this and I believe it was because I was passionate about what I did, and even if we had lost, knowing I had tried my best, and knowing that I could improve for new games and tournament, made me exicted.
Basketball was my main sport, it is the sport that I would choose over anyother sport in a blink of an eye but I still love and enjoy playing other sports. I have tried out many sports growing up like tennis, badminton, swimming, dance, track and field however team sports was something that made me click. It was just so interesting to be able to see how a team worked together and that team chemistry. I started becoming really intrested and by then I realized I was already the Captain of my basketball team. I have been captain for about 5 years in my previous school and 2 more years in IB. I have always enjoyed being able to figure out which positions or skills my teammates were best at to be able to figure out our highest chance of winning. Over the years of going to mulitple tournaments and gaining multiple medals and trophes, one thing really stood out to me that I don't realize often which was that I imporved so much and gained so much confidence in myself. I see old pictures or videos of myself playing and realizing that when I was two years younger I was thingking I would like to this specific skill and not a long time later, I realized I had pushed myself to achieve that skill. Playing with people than myself helped so much, and made me learn that losing isn't the end and the only to achieve wins was that I had to get stronger and push my self to limits, as well my team.
