7th Grade Chorus
Welcome!
The 7th grade choristers showed incredible creativity and flexibility during our time together in this, the most challenging year to be a singer. They began class in January, while we were still in the hybrid learning model, with a collaborative Teachertine Video project. At home they created new lyrics, mastered both melody and bass line, and recorded tracks later compiled to make the virtual choir melodies. In school we chose both our purpose and projects for our two terms together and learned to use Soundtrap in order to add accompaniment to our Teachertine melodies.
Then the "pivots" began! We moved from the hybrid model, which enabled us to make solo recordings during class for use in virtual choirs, to fully in-person with a 30 minute singing limit in any indoor space. We revamped our initially chosen virtual choir projects to a more informal jam session experience where students transferred their knowledge of song form and chords to various instruments playing a new song every week.
The 7th grade singers are a joyful crew! Their positivity and curiosity were such gifts to our second semester in the building and we think you'll find their creative products both entertaining and impressive. We look forward to returning to a more traditional chorus experience next year and can't wait to see what these performing artists achieve!
Have a safe and happy summer,
Lauren Connors and Valerie Stark
Teachertines
The 7th Grade Chorus traditionally uses the Teachertines project as a field trip fundraiser. Students form small groups and reimagine a pop song with new lyrics, bass line harmony, motifs, and optional instrumental accompaniment. They then deliver cards with a serenade to teachers just before February break.
This year, the project became a lesson in music production. The singers practiced good recording skills, learned a collaborative composition app called Soundtrap, and brushed up on iMovie for the accompanying visual. The final products were send to WMS and RLS teachers and very much appreciated by the school community.

Our Purpose
The 7th Grade singers chose to focus their Genius Hour investigation and jam session song themes exploring the different ideas around "Understanding Diversity". After exploring the links on the slide, students wrote or spoke reflections and discussed the big ideas with their cohort. The ideas and discussion points in class were used to pick the list of songs used in our jam sessions for the next 7 weeks.
