Google Docs/Drive on Tablets

Google Docs for tablets (Docs, Sheets, and Slides) currently (2016-17) offer only a small subset of the features found on their full versions on the Google Drive site.

If you need access to the more advanced features you will need to access Google drive via the full desktop version of Google Drives web site.

Please follow the instructions listed for your device.

Docs on Android

To access the full features of Google Docs on any Android device

    1. Open Chrome (web browser)
    2. Go to: mail.google.com
    3. Sign in using your school email account
    4. On the GMail page, in the top menu, select "More"
    5. Select "Drive" and wait for the page to load
    6. Select the "=" at the top left
    7. Select "Desktop version"

Once this page loads you have the ability to create new docs, sheets, or slides

    1. Create a new docs, sheets, or slides - this will open in a new tab
    2. If asked what to open it in select "Chrome" and "Always"

The new tab will have reverted to the mobile web site

    1. Tap the three dot icon next to the address bar - a drop-down menu will open
    2. Select "Desktop site"

You should now have the full version of the app you want.

Docs on iPads

To access the full features of Google Docs on any iOS device

    1. Open Safari (web browser)
    2. Go to: mail.google.com
    3. Sign in using your school email account
    4. On the GMail page, in the top menu, select "More"
    5. Select "Drive" and wait for the page to load
    6. Select the "=" at the top left
    7. Select "Desktop version"

Once this page loads you have the ability to create new docs, sheets, or slides

    1. Create a new docs, sheets, or slides - this will open in a new tab

The new tab will have reverted to the mobile web site

    1. Tap the web address in the address bar - a drop-down menu will open
    2. Swipe down on the menu to uncover more options
    3. Select "Desktop site"

You should now have the full version of the app you want.
