DEVELOPMENTAL DOMAINS
In the past a school counselor usually wasn't thought of as a resource for academic support. That is not the case as school counselors work with students in whole group, small-group, and individual settings to implement strategies and activities to support each students' ability to learn in and out of the classroom (ASCA, 2019).
Career development at the elementary school level may seem like it should be far off in the distance, but school counselors work to help students in their understanding of the connection between what they learn in school and what goes on in the world of work around them, and they help them consider interests that can carry them through multiple stages of their lives and into adulthood (ASCA, 2019).
School counselors use information from student competencies to help students manage their emotions in effective ways, and to learn how to apply interpersonal skills, such as clear communication skills, being able to collaborate effectively, and how to be flexible in different situations (ASCA, 2019).
