Message from your Counselors:
Choosing your courses and planning a schedule in high school is so exciting. You will have opportunities to explore something new or delve deeper into subjects that interest you. As a high school student, you have the opportunity to take more electives than ever before. No one wants an academic load that is either too easy or too hard. Take time to reflect on how full your life is with extra-curricular activities, how much academic support you need during the school day and whether or not you are ready for the added academic challenge of learning a new language. As you make these decisions, work with your family and your current teachers. They can help guide your choices. The grades 7-9 counselors are available to assist you with any questions, concerns or goal planning as you journey into this next phase of your education.
Students are encouraged and have the ability to meet with their school counselor to discuss courses at any time throughout the year. We strive to make sure students are selecting courses based on reaching not only the graduation requirements but appropriate selections to meet their post-secondary goals.
In the spring, School counselors present to all 8th grade students about the 9th grade course sign-up process.
Students are informed about 9th grade course requirements as well as graduation requirements. In addition, students are informed about the courses needed in 9th grade for various career and educational pathways.
We know that many students that live out of the district, have school choice in high school and will join us in 9th grade. Parents/guardians can begin the registration process by going to the Supervisory Union website, and clicking on the "Enroll a New Student" tab . Once the registration process is complete, students can contact the counseling office to schedule an individual appointment. One of our counselors will review your prior courses and collaborate with you to select the ones aligning best with your academic objectives and personal aspirations. It is ideal to begin this process in the spring of your 8th grade year if possible. This timing will increase your chances of securing the elective courses you prefer. This is also an opportune time to gather details about extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs and various school events that occur throughout the year.
