In Module 1, students will study the purposes and elements of mythology. Students will read Rick Riordan's The Lightning Thief as our anchor text. Students will participate in a close read of the novel looking for literary devices, mythical allusions, and the archetype of the hero's journey, in addition to traditional Greek myths and informational texts. We will answer the guiding questions: What is the hero's journey? What makes a myth? Why do myths matter?
